You Are Wonderful, Julia!
A show in Hungarian about Julia Lambert, a celebrated actress with an enviable life, for whom it is all just a game.
About the event
Performed in Hungarian. Julia Lambert is a celebrated actress. A witty, overwhelming woman of real stature. She lives an enviable life: people adore her, her husband is a theatre director, she has everything she wants. For Julia, though, all this is just a game. And she plays it with great talent. She sparkles her way through her own colourful, grand life, her roles, her men.
Then the diva, who is starting to age, falls in love with a young man almost the same age as her son. They have an affair and, suddenly, feelings, decisions and life itself have stakes. Jealousy, ageing, loneliness, the desire for revenge and passion begin to rage within Julia. Just like in a good play.
Maugham does not idealise her, but shows Julia's physical and inner life in depth, while, without meaning to, we find ourselves in the glittering, artificial world of the theatre. In Julia's story the boundaries between life and theatre become more and more blurred. It is hard to say whether the game has become this true or life this false.
