Holiday Games
“Jocul de-a vacanța” (Holiday Games) by Mihail Sebastian, directed by Andrei Mihalache, at Teatrul de Nord Satu Mare.
About the event
“Jocul de-a vacanța” (Holiday Games) by Mihail Sebastian, directed by Andrei Mihalache. Premiere: 12 January 2025. Running time: 2h 45 min (with one 15-minute interval). Recommended age: 12+.
“In our ‘Game...’ we set out to tell you, with tenderness, poetry and humour, about a comic encounter between a few people running away from themselves, in a place where nobody knows them and where they can be whoever they want [...]. Amid the smiles, a miniature tragedy also unfolds: a love that never gets the chance to be fulfilled, to mature, to burn all the way through, and that leaves behind a regret that it could have been good...” - Andrei Mihalache
Mihail Sebastian was the pen name of Iosif Hechter, born in Brăila. In 1938 his first play, “Jocul de-a vacanța”, was staged under this pen name. His second play, “Steaua fără nume”, was only staged in 1944, under another pen name, Victor Mincu. His last text, “Ultima oră”, was staged posthumously: on 20 May 1945, not yet 38, his life was cut short by a truck.
